How effectively have you cared for your teeth?
Our teeth are bones which, when broken, cannot regenerate again, unlike the bones in the other parts of our body. When it is damaged, the natural teeth cannot be brought back again. That is why we should take care of our teeth and always maintain good dental health.
Daily dental care has to be done to maintain strong and healthy teeth. But have you been taking care of them rightly?
Daily Dental Care Tips
Here are the things to do for an effective dental care that you should regularly do to keep the health of your teeth in good condition:
1. Use the Right Toothbrush
Brushes have different smoothness or hardness of bristles. You may think that those with hard bristles can effectively remove the dirt in your teeth and make them clean, but on the contrary, can damage your teeth and gums. It cannot be considered dental care at all. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles, and head which size is just enough to move around your mouth and clean the areas which can be hard to reach.
2. Don’t Brush Too Often, or Put Too Much Force When Brushing Your Teeth
If brushing twice a day can help maintain clean teeth, then why not brush it three times or more?
You might have thought of this, but brushing your mouth too often can recede your gums and expose the roots of your teeth, which are not covered by enamel. Therefore, the roots can be sensitive and can be prone to tooth decay.
Gently do your dental care routines by brushing moderately for about two minutes, and brushing it twice a day is enough to clean your teeth and keep your gums healthy.
3. Floss Your Teeth at Least Once a Day
Proper dental care routines include flossing. Flossing can help get rid of plaque in areas which cannot be reached by your brush, and that is in between teeth. If plaque isn’t removed, it accumulates until it causes tooth decay and gum disease. Brushing alone is not enough to remove plaque. The plaque in between teeth still has to be removed, and that can be done by a dental floss.
4. Avoid Sugary Food
In a proper dental care, you should also keep in mind the foods that you are intaking. Sugar food is one of the major factors that contribute to tooth decay, both among children and adults. Sugars are food to oral bacteria which then release acids that can cause tooth decay. So for a better teeth health, avoid sugary food, and if you eat some, rinse your mouth with water to prevent the sticking of sweet food particles onto your teeth.
5. Use Fluoride Toothpaste
It has long been proved that fluoride helps fight cavities and repair enamel on your teeth. Thus, an essential cleaning agent in helping you achieve a proper dental care. A smear of toothpaste that contains fluoride is enough for children under three years of age, while a pea-size of fluoride-rich toothpaste is adequate for children aging 3-6 years old.
While small cavities can still be treated by the dentist, don’t wait until you have to undergo such treatments. While you are still having a healthy mouth, maintain them. Keep a daily dental care habit to prevent cavities and always get a beautiful and bright smile.
