Resolvyx Pharmaceuticals Presents Data for Novel Resolvin Therapeutic at ACC

BEDFORD, Mass., and CHICAGO, Il., April 1 -- Resolvyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the leading resolvin therapeutics company, today announced the presention of preclinical results showing its novel resolvin therapeutic candidate, RX-10001, protected against ischemia reperfusion injury and limited myocardial infarct size in an experimental model. These data were presented today at the American College of Cardiology's (ACC) 57th Annual Scientific Sessions.

Resolvins are a recently discovered family of naturally-occurring, small molecule lipid mediators that act to protect healthy tissue during an immuno-inflammatory response to infection or injury and then act to resolve inflammation and promote healing following the inflammatory response. In the preclinical study presented at the ACC, there was a significant difference in infarct size (p<0.001), measured as a percentage of the ischemic area at risk, between the group treated with RX-10001 and the placebo group.

"These studies demonstrate the unique potential of resolvins in the treatment of acute coronary syndromes," said Yochai Birnbaum, MD, Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, The Division of Cardiology, The University of Texas Medical Branch "The data illustrate the potential for a novel resolvin therapeutic to treat ischemia-reperfusion injury, which is known to contribute to the high mortality rates associated with acute coronary syndromes as well as other ischemic organ syndromes."

In the case of a myocardial infarction (MI), more commonly known as a heart attack, the blood supply to the heart is interrupted, resulting in an oxygen shortage that causes damage and death of heart tissue. However, on interventions that restore blood supply, a second, equally devastating injury occurs: the reperfusion injury. Reperfusion injury is the result of an acute inflammatory response to the onset of blood flow, which when combined with oxidative damage and an impaired tissue metabolism, further prevents restoration of normal function.

"This study underscores the differentiated benefits of this class of therapeutics, which offer the potential of protecting healthy tissue during infection or injury, and promoting healing," said Per Gjorstrup, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Resolvyx. "Through their unique mechanism of action and fundamental and ubiquitous function, we believe resolvins represent a breakthrough in biology and have the potential to offer significant therapeutic benefit across a wide range of diseases related to inflammation and tissue degeneration."

About Resolvins
Resolvins are a recently discovered family of naturally-occurring, small molecule lipid mediators that can be targeted to treat a wide range of diseases. In particular, resolvins act to protect healthy tissue during an immuno-inflammatory response to infection, injury or other environmental challenge, and then act to resolve inflammation and promote healing after the environmental insult has passed.

Resolvins are attractive drug candidates to treat a broad range of acute and chronic diseases caused by a failure to resolve the inflammatory response and restore immune homeostasis. Such diseases include auto-immune diseases (like Crohn's disease, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis), allergic diseases (like asthma) and chronic inflammatory disease like atherosclerosis, degenerative retinal diseases, chronic dry eye and Alzheimer's disease. Resolvins offer an entirely novel biological approach to treating significant inflammatory diseases, with a decreased potential for immuno-suppression.

About Resolvyx Pharmaceuticals
Resolvyx Pharmaceuticals is a privately held biotechnology company dedicated to the development and commercialization of novel therapies to treat inflammatory diseases. The company's key technologies are based on small molecules derived from the enzymatic oxidation of omega-3 fatty acids. These small molecules, called resolvins, have been shown to have significant anti- inflammatory effects in multiple models of human disease processes. Resolvyx's drug R&D programs are focused on developing resolvin-based compounds to treat a range of both rare and highly prevalent inflammatory diseases. With its experienced management team, world-class scientists and leading investors, Resolvyx is well-positioned to capitalize on its extensive patent portfolio.

The company's headquarters are in Bedford, Massachusetts. For additional information, please visit http://www.resolvyx.com.
